To support our architectural aluminium business, we operate a light engineering fabrication workshop. We have a reputation for customer satisfaction that comes from offering tailored solutions in the Architectural Metals market that we predominantly operate in. Our light engineering fabrication business is key to our ability to be a leading supplier of architectural products and services as well as a leading supplier of standalone light engineering products.
An opportunity has arisen for someone with an engineering or technical background to support our Light fabrication team with product development and new market opportunities. This role will also support our current design team to integrate elements of our architectural products with our engineered products and processes and vice versa. The aim being improved manufacturing efficiencies and potentially whole new product groups.
In this role, you’re not a guru in one engineering field, but rather have good competency in a wide range of design, engineering, fabrication and technology related skills. This flexibility and ability to operate within a variety of engineering disciplines is what we are looking for to help grow this important part of our business.
The main duties will include:
Evaluating new product opportunities that would be a good fit with Spectrums present processes, capabilities and facilities.
Supporting the sales, estimating and fabrication and teams to evaluate sale enquiries to see if they are aligned with Spectrums present capabilities or could be easily taken on with some improvement or modification of existing processes or the implementation of new processes / techniques / equipment.
Analyse existing or devising new processes and techniques to facilitate the production of new products.
Creating concept designs for new products or processes that require fabrication
Giving Technical advice an preparing detailed designs and costings for new products
Estimating the cost of labour and materials needed for new products & services
Liaising directly with our existing light fabrication clients to understand their requirements to see if there are opportunities for Spectrum to offer further product or services.
We are looking for a person who might have:
experience in light engineering fabrication in aluminium, stainless and mild steel on a range of varied projects
experience in sheet metal pattern development
experience in product development
CAD skills – 2D and 3D modelling
Costing and estimating skills
Is comfortable in a role that involves some nurturing of existing client relationships and developing relationships with new clients and businesses.
A formal engineering qualification – Mechanical, Structural or Architectural. Or at least enough experienced to know what we are talking about when we mention “ I values, Wind Zones and Producer Statements”.
Experience using project management and costing spreadsheets and some awareness of ERP systems and other cloud applications.
Able to communicate effectively with internal shareholders and other stakeholders
A full NZ driver’s license
A desire to deliver top results, guide and motivate other team members, and be a proven problem solver.
A willingness to also personally learn, grow, and develop within the company.
